Tarrant County Schools

Tarrant Area SchoolsAccording to the Star-Telegram's User's Guide, There are 20 public school districts located wholly or partially in Tarrant County.  Fort Worth is the largest, followed by Arlington.  The Fort Worth district recently passed a $398 million bond issue and plans to build 12 new elementary schools in the next few years.

The Texas Education Agency publishes data on each school district and campus in the state on its Internet site. It includes such things as ethnic makeup, scores on the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills, teacher/pupil ratio, and many other items. To find the information, go to www.tea.state.tx.us and click on AEIS under the section on School Data.

A private education reform organization called Just for the Kids also maintains a web site that includes school performance on the TAAS test and other information to make comparisons on how proficient students are at each school. The site is www.just4kids.org.

How to Enroll

HOW TO ENROLL

Families with children who are new to a school district should contact the district to enroll as soon as possible. Registration is done at the school the child will attend. If you do not know which school attendance area you are in, call the district's administration office.

In general, new students should: * register with a parent or guardian; * show proof of address (lease agreement or utility bill); * show certified birth certificate for children in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade; * show immunization records; * have report card from the last school attended; * provide name, address, phone number of previous school. * Most schools would also like, but do not require, the child's Social Security number.

For information on specific districts, contact the school administration office at:
